Winston O. Soboyejo, Princeton University Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Director of Undergraduate Program, Princeton Institute for the Science & Technology of Materials, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, USA, will give a lecture titled, “New Frontiers in Engineering for Development," at Kwara State University, Malete, on Tuesday March 2, 2010, at 11am at the University Auditorium. The Lecture, opened to the general public, will discuss ways in which Engineering provides a major impetus for the development for any nation. Professor Soboyejo is on a one-week visit to Kwara State University from February 27 to March 3, 2010 to join other select scholars of Engineering in planning for the establishment of the KWASU’s College of Engineering and Technology expected to take off from the 2010-20111 academic session at Malete. The KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, while constituting the committee charged members to present to him a proposal for a true twenty-first century College of Engineering. Other members of the committee, co-chaired by the University of Ilorin’s former Dean of Engineering, Professor B.F. Sule, and its current Dean, Professor J.A. Olorunmaiye, include the Dean of Engineering and Technology, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, and four other professors of Engineering from different disciplines from the University of Ilorin. Professor Soboyejo’s lecture is expected to prepare the KWASU community for the potentials of a College of Engineering and Technology on the KWASU campus.
