The lecture, which had as a guest speaker the Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. Christopher Cooter, focused on the future of the Canadian-Nigerian relationship. Professor Na’Allah said that it is time that universities make sure their academic programmes are geared towards solving the problems of the community especially in eradicating poverty in the land. He added that KWASU has a number of programmes geared towards eradicating poverty in the state. The University, he explained, has devised means of seeking assistance for indigenes of the State who find it difficult to come to the University as a result of the tuition fees. He explained that the institution is conscious of the economic situation of the people. This is the reason why the school has various foundation and scholarship programmes. According to him, the University has the Office of Development and Advancement that mobilises funds for scholarships for students. He used the forum to call on parents, State and local governments and the private sector to contribute in any way they can, adding that all of last year’s tuition fees is not adequate to pay the salary of workers for two months. He explained that attaining world class status is expensive. The KWASU Distinguished Visitor Lecture Series is aimed at exposing the staff and students of the institution to international issues to aid them in becoming global citizens.
