KWASU Chancellor gets AU appointment
The Kwara State University Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, CFR, has been appointed as a member of the African Peer Review Panel of Eminent Persons.
African Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union was established in March 2003 by the Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee (HSGIC) of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). It is a self-monitoring instrument for assessing performance among the member states. APR Panel of Eminent Persons therefore exercises oversight of the APR mechanism process to ensure the independence, professionalism and credibility of the process. It also oversees the selection of the APRM country review mission teams and assigns them to conduct country review.
Ambassador Fatuma Nyirakobwa Ndangiza from Rwanda is the new Chairperson of the African Peer Review Panel of Eminent Persons (APR Panel) while Ambassador Ashraf Rashed from Egypt is the Vice-Chairperson. Members of the Panel are Africans who have distinguished themselves in careers that are considered relevant to the work of the APRM and they serve for a maximum period of four years.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, management, staff and students have congratulated Professor Gambari on the appointment. In a congratulatory message signed by the Registrar, Mr. Surajudeen Oyebode, the University described the appointment as well-deserved.
Mr. Oyebode said the news of the appointment did not come to the University as a surprise because Professor Gambari’s achievement in all fields of human endeavours eminently qualified him for such appointment. He, therefore, prayed that Almighty Allah would continue to grant him the strength and wisdom to enable him to continue his selfless service not only to his country, but also to humanity as a whole.
