College of ICT lifts 2015 VC's Cup
The College of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Kwara State University, Malete, has won the 2015 Vice-Chancellor's Soccer Competition. The ICT team defeated the College of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences by eight goals to seven on penalty shootout after playing a one-all draw at the final encounter on Monday, April 20, 2015.
Also, the College of Engineering and Technology defeated the College of Agriculture by two goals to nothing to secure the third place at the competition which featured all the six colleges of the University.
Presenting the trophy and a cash prize of N30,000 to the 2015 VC's soccer champions, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, represented by the Head, Department of Kinesiology, College of Education, Dr. Rufus Ajayi, congratulated them on the feat, just as he praised their opponents for displaying high level of football skills throughout the competition.
He remarked that the football competition started well and ended successfully due to the high spirit of sportsmanship displayed by all the teams. He added that the essence of the annual soccer event was to foster unity and friendship among the students, as well as to keep them physically and mentally fit.
He said aside attracting members of the University Community, the competition also drew football lovers from the host community, describing sports as one of the avenues for bringing people together.
The VC's representative, who also presented cash prizes to the Colleges of Humanities and Engineering for coming second and third respectively, restated KWASU’s commitment to hosting the next edition of the competition at the Institution’s stadium under construction. He therefore wished the students success in their Rain Semester examination.
The Director of Sports, Professor Mohammed Gambari, represented by the Secretary, KWASU Directorate of Sports, Mr. Akeem Saraki, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his support towards the success of the competition.
It will be recalled that the 2015 Vice-Chancellor's Soccer Competition kicked off on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the GSS, Malete field.
