GOVERNOR AHMED LAYS FOUNDATION OF N810m COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY COMPLEX AT KWASU. The Kwara State Governor Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed has called for support for the Kwara State University from Captains of Industries, Finance and Banking Institutions, Information, Communication and Multinational Companies. The Governor made this call at the foundation laying ceremony of 810 million naira College of Engineering building for the Kwara State University. The Chief Executive explained that since the inception, his administration science and technology have been promoted as part of its industrialisation and economic development efforts, with emphasis on science and entrepreneurship from secondary school level upwards. This according to him is to create entrepreneurial-minded scientists to support the industrialisation efforts of the State Government as well as drive the associated increase in economic activity. Governor Ahmed added that the foundation laying ceremony therefore moves KWASU closer to being a leading institution in science education, research and development. According to him, the State Government has taken up the challenge of making KWASU a world-class centre of excellence despite limited resources. He called on all Kwarans to collectively contribute to the growth and development of the University with a view to making the Institution rank among the top ten Universities in Nigeria within the next five years.He reiterated the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that KWASU’s teaching and research activities bear direct relevance to the needs of its local and external community. In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Mouhammed Aliyu Lade said the intent of the State Government is to make KWASU a model University where job creators would be produced to promote small and medium enterprises which are the engines for economic growth. The College of Engineering and Technology Complex according to him is to be delivered in 52 weeks. Earlier in an introductory remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah noted the efforts of the present Administration in the growth of the Institution. He described the foundation laying ceremony of the KWASU Engineering building as underpinning the training of the next generation of engineers, scientists and technologist with the capacity to solve real problems and provide leadership that can lead to the economic and social transformation of Kwara State and Nigeria. The Vice Chancellor stressed that KWASU Engineering with Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering is the first in Nigeria which forms a corner stone for Aerospace Engineering development in years to come. Departments in the College include: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Food, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Material Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The main aim of the College according to the Vice-Chancellor is solving society’s challenges by promoting the discovery of new knowledge by preparing students for leadership roles in a global, technology driven society, create environment for learning, teaching and community outreach. |
