The Kwara State University has received the Association for Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA) Document to aid meeting its mandate and achieving its set goals on Community Development activities.
This document was presented to the University by an international Social Worker and a lecturer, Dr. Linda Kreitzer from University of Calgary, Canada, after she took some staff and students of the University through the contents of the document on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the University.
Dr. Kreitzer said the document will further help the University in transmitting knowledge, values and skills directed towards the improvement of human condition at various levels of need.
She explained that the document contains reports of the seminars of ASWEA that were published between 1971 and 1989, which has made it a necessity for the University as well as other universities that offer a course in Community Development or Social Work Education to havethis document in their libraries.
According to her, with this feat, KWASU has joined the team of universities with this very important and relevant document in Africa.
“The ASWEA document will promote teaching and research in the field of social development in Africa, establish and maintain higher standards among all types of institutions engaged in different levels of social work education and promote cooperation between schools of social works, institutions and centres concerning social work education,’’ she said.
Responding, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, the Vice-Chancellor of the University expressed his gratitude, adding that he was anxious to see how the document would enhance the quality of community development services at the University.
