Kwara State University, being ‘the University for Community Development’, has initiated a process towards the establishment of cooperation agreements, under the auspices of UNESCO – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
As the only United Nations agency with a mandate in Higher Education, UNESCO facilitates the development of evidence-based policies in response to new trends and developments in this field emphasizing its role in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and particularly poverty eradication.
In view of the proposals at hand, the management of kwara State University (KWASU) will be meeting with the Chairman of UNESCO’s Executive board, Ambassadors & Permanent Delegates of Asian and African countries, and UNESCO civil servants from several sectors, including Professor Georges Haddad, Director of the Division of Higher Education who holds responsibility for the UNITWIN / UNESCO chairs programme. Coming from her first public speaking engagement at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) held in Doha – Qatar, the newly elected Director-General, Ms Irina Bokova will also meet with the KWASU team. The meetings will be held at the UNESCO headquarters, in Paris – France.
The KWASU delegation includes Alhaji Mohammed Sha’aba Lafiagi (Chairman, Governing Council of the University), Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah (Vice-Chancellor of the University), and Professor Abiola Irele (Professor at Harvard University, and now, pioneer Provost for the College of Arts, Humanities Management & Social Sciences at Kwara State University).
