GOOGLE RANKS KWASU WEBSITE AMONG TOP-TEN FOR NIGERIANS IN 2009
KWASU Website among the topmost sites for Nigerians in 2009
The Guardian, a leading Nigerian national newspaper, publishes on its back page on Monday 7 December 2009, that Google, the international online search engine, has released its 2009 search data. The data offers a unique perspective on the year’s major events and hottest trends based on global searches. Reports The Guardian:

“Nigerians surfing the web showed varied interest in education online tools. The results reflect the growing importance of finding and sharing information online through search engines like Google and offer a detailed insight into the trends and developments in Nigerians’ interests.

The search also showed the fastest rising searches dominated by local requests from Zain, Aero, Gani Fawehinmi and the Kwara State University. This is a clear indication that local content matters to Nigerians and that Nigerians are absolutely passionate about music as the top celebrity search list is dominated by popstars, including Nigerian’s popular R&B icon, Wande Coal, with the American President Barack Obama, as the only exception.

The search also revealed that the fastest rising searches were conducted on Facebook, Zain, Aero and Opera, Yahoo mail, MTN, Michael Jackson, Gani Fawehinmi, my JAMB exams.com and Kwara State University sites. Other result that emerged has Nigeria Yahoo, Facebook, Nokia, News, Mail Google as the most popular surfed sites.”

Commenting, the Kwara State University Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, said the fact that KWASU is the only Nigerian university that made it as one of the most visited online sites in 2009 by Nigerians despite the fact that the university only began preparing for academic activities in August 2009 is a testimony to the popularity that KWASU is achieving among Nigerian young people. Professor Na’Allah said he was not surprise at all because KWASU is becoming the University of Choice for young Nigerians from across the country. He said KWASU is the university for securing Kwara State’s and Nigeria’s future as important players on the world stage of the twenty-first century, and said the university is excited about its vision of establishing a world class university and to train Nigerian students as global citizens and creators of wealth. Professor Na’Allah thanked the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for setting the world-class vision for Kwasu and for his solid support for a first-rate ICT for the university.
