KWASU’s Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, has showered encomiums on the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for his tireless efforts and dogged determination to make Kwara State University truly world class. Professor Na’Allah said this in reaction to the 2010 budget which the governor presented to the State House of Assembly on December 22, 2009. In the newly proposed budget, the governor earmarked close to Two Billion Naira (about N1.905b) for the University in the next fiscal year. From this amount, the Governor proposed 205 million Naira each to develop Osi-Opin and Ilesa-Baruba campuses, respectively.
The Vice-Chancellor said the Governor and the state legislatures have demonstrated that the university is a first priority for them, and thanked them for reflecting the wishes of Kwarans in the way they have shown total commitment to establishing the first-rate University for Kwara. He commended Governor Saraki for the vision he has set to make the university among the best ones in the world and assured him that he will never be disappointed. He expressed optimism that the state legislatures would approve the Governor’s budget proposal for KWASU, saying that he has met many of the legislatures personally and he is sure that they have always gone the extra mile to help the Governor realize his dream of making this a world-class university for Kwara State and Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor said next fiscal year would see exciting growth for the University and invite all Kwarans and interested Nigerians to visit the Malete campus to see the outstanding campus the Governor has constructed for the University. He said among what to expect in the next fiscal year are the strengthening of the ICT provisions for KWASU, a remarkable increase in instructional resources and other library acquisitions, construction of more buildings on the three campuses of the university, recruitment of additional academic staff, and provision of other first-rate resources to the three campuses. He said to whom much is given much is expected, and promised the state government that the management of the University under his leadership would do everything to make them and all kwarans proud by establishing a solid foundation for a University that will train students to be global citizens, who would use their global reach for personal and community development. He said products of KWASU would create wealth for Nigeria ad not become parasites on their communities.
