Dear KWASU Students and Staff,

Happy New Year, and I hope you had wonderful holidays!

I especially like to welcome the returning students to campus, and to students joining us for the first time, I say welcome to your world-class university. The government of Kwara State under the able leadership of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has given you this opportunity to study in a university comparable to the best universities in the world. KWASU’s goal is to ensure that campus resources, your lecturers and the support staff are among the best provided in any first-rate university world-wide. In employing your lecturers, we invited them to publicly demonstrate their scholarly and teaching capabilities and the Governing Council chose those found most competent to deliver a world-class education to students. KWASU wants to train you to be global citizens, and to equip you to create wealth and not to roam about looking for employment after your graduation. Work hard at all times, exercise, rest, eat well and maintain other healthy habits. KWASU will make sure that if you do your own part well, you will earn an education that will propel you to be leaders in the development of your community. Our motto is “Skills and Integrity.” KWASU promises to develop your person and equip you to serve the Nigerian community with honor and integrity. Our slogan is “The University for Community Development.” Whenever you think of yourself as KWASU students, eventual alumni or member of staff, think about your commitment to develop the Nigerian community!

I will like to invite all members of the KWASU community to reciprocate government’s heavy investment by becoming good custodians of campus resources and excellent users of its facilities. To all academic and support staff, we must be proud to be among the outstanding set of experts selected to deliver world-class education and services to our students. Show your pride by instilling confidence in our students. Demonstrate your integrity by avoiding idleness, rumour mongering and corruption. As your Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, I promise to lead you with humility and zero tolerance for waste, laziness and pettiness. KWASU is created to develop global citizens and we must in the process maintain the most adored global values. KWASU will respect, promote and protect our natural environment, and maintain the honour of our harmony state and individual family names.

In this academic year, we will witness continuous growth on campus. Please be patient as more and more buildings are built and more and more services provided. Extend friendship and good neighborliness to construction workers. The university has no tolerance for uncivilized characters and will treat any misbehaviour with swift disciplinary actions. Please familiarize yourself with the KWASU Code of Conduct for students and staff respectively. Violence, sexual abuse, cultism and wanton destruction and disrespect for KWASU properties will earn you summary dismissal if found guilty.

Finally, I want to invite you to enjoy your campus. We are lucky to be in an environment blessed with spectacular riches of nature: river fountains, small and medium hills, trees and other green resources. As a twenty-first century university, we are also an ICT intensive university that gives you constant opening to the world through our electronic technology. Please enjoy and help nurture and sustain the wonderful blend of the two worlds in Malete. KWASU has already started inviting first-rate world institutions to collaborate with us. We are exploring UNESCO agencies to attract support to campus. We are setting up Study Abroad programs and establishing an Asia Studies Center; we are looking at developing an important research in Alternative Energy – and these are only a few among what KWASU is set to achieve this academic year.

Please don’t be left behind when you are called upon to contribute your time and ideas in making KWASU’s vision of a World-Class University realizable by participating actively in the 5-year Strategic Plan activities that will start on campus soon.
