KWASU HOLDS HEALTH AWARENESS FORUM
The Vice Chancellor Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’allah has reiterated the commitment of the University Management towards providing a well enhanced health care services to the students.
Prof. AbdulRasheed made this known at a health forum and inauguration of an Action Health Group named Anuoluwa Health Action Group organised by the Health Services Unit of the state university.
The Vice Chancellor said the duties of the Health Action Group include the Launching of a comprehensive communication strategy aimed at promoting awareness on environmental factors that could contribute to the increase rate of Asthma in the university, production of news letters, and getting health grant among others.
The University Don, urged members of the Action Group which comprise both student and staff volunteers and the university medical team, to be committed and dedicated to their responsibility.
Giving a lecture at the forum, Dr A.K. Salami, a consultant pulmonologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital said about 150 million people in the world are suffering from Asthma.
Dr. Salami who emphasized the importance of knowing how to handle Asthma in case of emergency, urged the students to learn to give First Aid treatment to Asthma patients.
The Medical Director, Kwara State University Health Services, Dr. Nimat Ameen said the Anuoluwa Health Action Group was named after Miss Anuoluwapo Owolabi, a student of the University who died of an Asthmatic attack on the 29th of May, 2010.
The event which was held at the University Auditorium featured launching of Kwara State University Asthma handbook, Emergency Kits and posters meant to be pasted at strategic locations, within the university, demonstration of Asthma first aid treatment by the volunteer group among others.
