THE CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Center for Entrepreneurship (TCE) of Kwara State University (KWASU)was established through a process that started on August 11, 2009, to be: “the center for thinking, reasoning, acting, opportunities, resource mobilization, leadership and value-reorientation, expected to project the image of the University positively, through the creation of new generation of entrepreneurs that will affect positively, the economic and social structure of Kwara State, Nigeria, in particular, and the world, in general.”

Right from inception of Kwara State University, ever before the first set of students were admitted for academic activities in December 2009, the University had thought it appropriate to commence operations with the resolve to produce graduates that are creative and innovative, and can compete favourably in the world. This therefore necessitated the process (that started in August 2009) of establishing a center that will help realize this unique objective of the university.

As a University, the responsibility to provide “sufficient and appropriate” manpower in terms of human capital development, to harness the abundant resources of the state and the nation requires us to produce graduates that can hold their own and stand the test of time in this digital age. Thus, the capacity of our graduates to reinvent the ways things are done in line with international standards is a major responsibility we cannot afford to overlook.

The Center for Entrepreneurship is therefore expected to develop the creative and innovative abilities in every individual that passes through Kwara State University through an entrepreneurship process that is holistic in approach and design to impress on the institution’s graduates a way of thinking, reasoning and acting that is opportunity obsessed and leadership balanced.

The Center is expected to prepare KWASU Graduates to identify and recognize opportunities, take risks in a very calculated fashion that shifts the odds in their favour, balance the risk with the potential reward, and devise indigenous strategies to marshall available limited resources, and create enterprises to take advantage of the wave of technological innovations and numerous business opportunities in the business environment.
